Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean-Jacques Wamutombo (born June 25, 1966), commonly referred to as Dikembe Mutombo, is a retired Congolese American professional basketball player who last played for the Houston Rockets of the NBA. A well-known humanitarian, Mutombo started the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation to improve living conditions in his native Democratic Republic of Congo in 1997. His efforts earned him the NBA's J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award in 2001 and 2009. For his achievements, The Sporting News named him as one of the "Good Guys in Sports" in 1999 and again in 2000. In 1999, he was elected as one of 20 winners of the President's Service Awards, the nation's highest honor for volunteer service. In 2004, he also participated in the Basketball Without Borders NBA program, where NBA stars like Shawn Bradley, Malik Rose and DeSagana Diop toured Africa to spread the word about basketball and to improve the infrastructure. Mutombo is a spokesman for the international relief agency, CARE and is the first Youth Emissary for the United Nations Development Program. He has also been a Global Ambassador for Special Olympics. In honor of his humanitarianism, Mutombo was invited to President George W. Bush's 2007 State of the Union Address and was referred to as a "son of the Congo" by the President in his speech. The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health awarded Dikembe Mutombo the Goodermote Humanitarian Award "for his efforts to reduce polio globally as well as his work improving the health of neglected and underserved populations in the Democratic Republic of Congo." |
Elizabeth Poythress |
Elizabeth Poythress is born in Louisiana, where her father worked for Delta Airlines. Elizabeth attended college as a working adult and successfully received her B. S. degree in Management from Shorter College and her M. S. in Human Resource Management from Troy State University. Elizabeth is a registered Mediator in the State of Georgia and serves on a panel of mediators for Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) cases. Elizabeth worked in the field of Human Resources for about 25 years with positions of increasing responsibility until she retired in 2001. She served as President of the Georgia Society of Human Resource Management in 1997 and served on the Board of Directors of the organization until 2009. She has been certified by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) as a Lifetime Senior Professional in Human Resources. As First Lady of the Georgia National Guard, where her husband David was Adjutant General, Elizabeth was very involved with the families of the soldiers and airmen - deployed both at home and abroad. She continually stressed the importance of volunteerism and reaching out to others to give a helping hand. Internationally, Elizabeth participated in the State Department's Program between the Georgia National Guard and the Republic of Georgia, - visiting the country on numerous occasions - working with the U. S. Embassy in Tbilisi and Georgian universities and orphanages. She and David live in the Atlanta area and are members of the Peachtree Road United Methodist Church. |
Michael Dean Woodson |
Michael Dean Woodson (born March 24, 1958) is a retired American basketball player and former head coach of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. Woodson took over the job prior to the 2004-05 NBA season. He came to the Hawks after a stint as an assistant coach on the 2003-04 Detroit Pistons NBA Championship team and was a long-time assistant under Larry Brown. Woodson played college basketball at Indiana University and was a protege of legendary coach Bob Knight. He was the leading scorer on the 1979 Indiana team that won the NIT championship. Prior to working with Brown, Woodson was an assistant with the Milwaukee Bucks for three years beginning in 1996. He later took a coaching job in Cleveland before being invited to join Brown's staff. Woodson and his wife Terri have two daughters, Alexis and Mariah, and both are very talented volleyball players. Woodson coached the Atlanta Hawks for six seasons. On August, 2011, the New York Knicks announced that Mike Woodson was hired as an assistant coach under head coach Mike D'Antoni. |

Dr Jay Sampat |
Dr. Jay Sampat is an Internist who emigrated to USA during 1972. His wife is a Psychiatrist. He worked at the refugee camps in Bangladesh during the Indo Pak war of 1971. His work then took him to Uganda E. Africa. The poor people loved his work. Due to the turmoil in the country, their journey took the couple to USA. They practiced medicine in Michigan, Arizona and finally in Atlanta Georgia. Dr.Sampat had an open door policy where no one was turned away from receiving medical care due to lack of insurance or money. His work in Winslow, Arizona, one of the poorest counties with high unemployment was lauded by the hospital board for his humanitarian services and by the mayor of Winslow. The mayor proclaimed "Dr.Sampat Day" one day of the year in honor of him. The move to Georgia was followed by starting free clinics at a local church and at GAPI (Gerogia Phsicians of India) clinic held once a month. GAPI honored him with a plaque for his generosity and time spent taking care of the uninsured and under insured. His passion in alternative energy took him in the direction of manufacturing a solar energy storage module. This could revolutionize the way energy is stored and utilized during the time of need. Recently he has been appointed to an advisory board of a technical school. |

He worked as Assistant Manager, Corporate Finance division in India. He moved on to Africa as a Consultant Finance and Financial systems with South African Airways. In the United States he was the Financial Controller of a Manufacturing corporation. He is experienced in Corporate Governance Audits (Sox Audits) and Internal Compliance Consulting to US Corporations. Since entering Public Accounting Practice in 2002, Harish Iyer has been providing Financial and Tax consultancy to Corporations and entrepreneurs in Georgia. She has chosen the path of business, like her father, and is gaining business experience before pursuing her MBA. She is currently involved with Think Development Systems, a global software solution provider with consulting resources and a software development team with SEI CMMi Level 5 certification for government, retail, distribution and manufacturing sectors. Joanna is also working with Boeing and will also learn how to manage restaurants in Hartsfield Jackson International Airport located in Atlanta, GA. She has been involved in a number of volunteer activities such as hospice, volunteering at hospitals in the US and India, church activities such as feeding the homeless, etc. HUT America is one of her strongest passions. |
