  HUT AIDS Clinic

The HUT AIDS CLINIC is a comprehensive facility providing medical, counseling, referral and outreach services to the HIV/AIDS patients. The care needs of People living with HIV (PLHIV) are multiple and vary in different stages of the illness.

HUT AIDS CLINIC is envisaged as a hospice away from home, which provides the following services to PLHIV

  • Newly diagnosed PLHIV receive support, treatment and come to terms with their diagnosis.
  • PLHIV come for regular health checkups as well as for management of minor opportunistic infections.
  • PLHIV initiated on ART are oriented on the ART drugs, the dosages, importance of drug adherence, common side effects of the medications and adverse drug reactions which need immediate medical attention.
  • PLHIV receive counseling on a wide range of issues including drug adherence, positive prevention, nutrition etc.
  • Psychosocial, nutritional and educational support would be extended to PLHIV along with services of orphanages, destitute homes, vocational trainings, rehabilitation centers, legal support etc.

 

Patients would be referred to the HUT AIDS CLINIC from the Anti retroviral treatment centre (ARTC) around the time of ART initiation for detailed workup of the patients, education on treatment literacy and side effects of ART. Subsequently, while on treatment, the patient would be referred for management of minor OIs, side effects of ART etc.




Details of services provided at the HUT AIDS CLINIC

Outpatient

  • Management of minor Opportunitic infections.
  • Screening and management of STI
  • Counselling for adherence, positive prevention, risk reduction, nutrition and support for disclosure and other areas.

 

Inpatient

HUT AIDS CLINIC is a facility for outpatient and inpatient treatment and care where PLHIV are referred to the CLINIC for treatment, counseling and care. The following services are extended for the inpatients:

Medical services

  • Diagnosis and management of minor OIs
  • Medical monitoring and treatment of minor side effects of ART and referral to ARTC, if required after treatment as an in-patient, discharge of PLHIV would be determined by the treating physician.

 

Counselling

  • Treatment literacy to PLHIV initiated ART for 'Drug Adherence'
  • Psychosocial support and counselling on nutrition, behaviour change, positive prevention including consistent use of condoms, reproductive health counselling etc
  • Counselling and support for disclosure of HIV Status, partner testing and regular follow-up for maintaining sero-discordant status
  • Counselling of care givers on home-based care.

 

Outreach services

The outreach services provided include:

  • Accompanied referrals to and from ARTC wherever feasible.
  • Assisting clients in Pre-ART and ART registration.
  • Regular follow-up of all the registered clients at the HUT AIDS CLINIC for reinforcement on drug adherence, positive prevention (especially condom promotion), nutrition and home based care, monitor well-being, disseminate information on signs and symptoms of OIs to facilitate timely access to services.
